piZap.com free online photo editor Today we looked inside our fossils. It was hard to break open some of the fossils and we had to really persevere. We were able to see some really good leaf and shell prints. We can now see how clay and mud eventually turns to rock over many years and also see how plants and other objects make patterns in the clay.

WALA the key Competency "Participating and Contributing"

As part of our Multiple intelligence rotations we have been performing and acting in plays. We chose a play about dinosaurs because it relates to our Inquiry "How do fossils give us clues about the past?" This group of children worked together extremely well taking turns, managing their self control, respecting one another and cooperating nicely in a team activity. We have made a wallwisher to share our wonderings.

We have been thinking about what we would really like to find out as we learn about "How do fossils give us clues about the past?". We have made a wallwisher to share our wonderings. Please add your thoughts so that we can get as many as possible. Remember to ask an open question and to really think deeply about your question.

WALA fossils and dinosaurs

Today we were very fortunate to have Dr Joe Mckee who is a Paleontologist come and talk to us about fossils and dinosaurs. He showed us some slides and bought in some samples of fossils embedded in rocks. He told us that fossils are found in sedimentary rocks and that you have to use special tools to cut open the rocks so that you dont damage the fossil. We had many questions to ask him and you can read all about our wonderings and discoveries in our Connected Curriculum books.
